Oblivion 47 follows the story of a normal, everyday family who are swept up in a game of interstellar politics and forced to flee their home on Earth to a far-away space colony.
Set initially in a contemporary southern England, Jason Reed - a newly redundant IT worker - agrees to help out a man who he rescues from a burning car at the side of the road. The money is good, the work is easy - simply acting as a courier and fix-it man while the stranger heals in a roadside motel. Unknown to both himself and the conscientious stranger however, dark forces are closing in.
Faced with throwing Jason to the wolves or escaping himself, the stranger stands his ground while Jason Reed and his family use the stranger's 'get out of jail' card - meeting what seems to be a military helicopter in a deserted quarry in the dead of night.
They wake however, in a Mediterranean-style villa at the base of a deep chasm, surrounded by near paradise waterfalls, sub-tropical forests and a thriving, village-like society - it takes some time for Reed and his family to believe that they are actually in an artificial valley carved in the heart of a giant asteroid, tens of thousands of light-years away from the Earth.
Coping with new races, integrating into a new and very different society and in the case of Reed himself, joining a select team of agents with a special, civilisation spanning goal, life is going to be far from dull.
First of all, what has really happened to their mysterious benefactor, now missing somewhere on a comparatively barbarous planet Earth..?
